How Do You Get Verified on TikTok?

You apply inside the app and TikTok decides. Open your profile, tap the Menu button, then Settings and privacy, then Account, then Verification, then Start.

There is no fee and there is no shortcut. TikTok says it weighs whether an account is active, authentic, notable and unique. It also says it does not count followers or likes, on the same TikTok verified badge help page. So there is no follower number to chase. A dance account with two million fans and a news anchor with four thousand face the same short list.

Your request needs proof attached. TikTok asks for credible written media coverage, such as news articles. Your own social posts do not count. After you submit, TikTok says it will tell you the result within 30 days. The answer arrives as a TikTok notification.

What Does the Blue Check Actually Mean?

It means TikTok checked that the account belongs to who it says it is. It is an identity label, not a quality score and not a pay grade.

TikTok says the badge exists so people know they follow "the real deal, rather than a fake or fan account". TikTok also says that only TikTok can apply a verified badge. The check always sits in the same spot, right next to the username. A check typed into a bio is fake. A check drawn onto a profile photo is fake too.

What Are TikTok's Verification Criteria?

TikTok lists four account checks: recognized, active, authentic and notable. You need a finished profile, a login in the last 6 months, a real identity behind the account, and coverage in multiple news sources.

Recognized means the profile is finished, so you need a name, a profile photo, a bio and at least one public post. Active means you logged in to TikTok in the past 6 months. Authentic means a real person, business or institution stands behind the account. A personal account needs an ID check. A business needs a Verified Business Account or an Organization Account, and an institution needs official proof of affiliation.

Notable is the hard one. TikTok wants you featured in multiple news sources. Sponsored or paid media does not count, social media posts do not count, and outdated or irrelevant articles do not count. It is the only check you cannot finish in an afternoon.

Nothing on the list is about talent, and nothing on it is about size. The whole test asks one question. Are you the real, known owner of this name? Bring the proof and you have given yourself a real shot.

Why Do Huge Accounts Still Get Declined?

Because the badge tracks press, not popularity. TikTok says it does not count followers or likes at all. A creator with five million fans and no news coverage still misses the notable check.

A decline is not the end. TikTok says you can check the rejection reason and resubmit after the waiting period it shows. Fix the exact gap the notice names, then go back in. If the notice points at notable, the fix is press, so treat the wait as time to earn some.

Can Anyone Sell You a Verified Badge?

No. TikTok's help page says it does not charge you to get verified. It also says any entity claiming to sell TikTok verifications is not affiliated with TikTok.

That one line retires a whole industry of DM offers. Anyone quoting you a price for a check is selling what they cannot deliver. TikTok also says it does not contact people by email or direct message to ask them to apply. The one exception is government, politician and political party accounts. So an unexpected message asking you to verify is the kind TikTok tells you to report as phishing.

Business verification is a separate thing. TikTok's guide to business verification says it "is different from the blue-checkmark profile indication, which is only for high-profile accounts such as celebrities and major brands".
