What are the TikTok Shop affiliate requirements in the US?
You must be 18 or older, based in the United States, and have at least 1,000 followers. You also need to pass Creator Identity Verification and keep your account in good standing. That list comes straight from TikTok's Creator Eligibility Policy. It sets the follower floor for affiliate creators at 1,000.
Good standing has real teeth. You must have no prior record of e-commerce permissions being revoked by TikTok Shop. You also cannot be associated with accounts that have had them revoked. Your account cannot carry a Government, Politician, or Political Party label. And you have to follow the TikTok Shop Content Policy, the Community Guidelines, and the Creator Code of Conduct.
One quieter rule catches people out. TikTok warns against sharing login details with accounts that carry high violations. A shared login can pull someone else's bad history onto your clean account. Notice what is not on the list too. There is no minimum account age. There is no rule that says you need a business account. Most affiliates apply from a normal personal account.
What does the 1,000-follower minimum actually get you?
The 1,000-follower minimum lets you apply on your own as an affiliate creator and earn real commission. It places you in the Creator Pilot Program, not full access. The 5,000 number quoted everywhere is the graduation line that removes pilot limits, not the bar to get in.
TikTok publishes both figures, and each one gates a different door. TikTok's creator requirements page puts the affiliate floor at 1,000 followers. The same page says an account needs at least 5,000 to promote products from other sellers through the full product marketplace. Between those two lines sits the Creator Pilot Program, covered in the next section.
Only followers on the account you apply with count. An audience on Instagram or YouTube does not move the number. Give yourself headroom too. Follower counts shift daily, and an account that cleared 1,000 last week can dip under it today. Still short? Our guide to what each follower milestone unlocks shows where the affiliate bar sits next to TikTok's other gates.
What is the Creator Pilot Program?
The Creator Pilot Program is the on-ramp for affiliate creators who join with under 5,000 followers. You earn real commission from day one, but with caps on how much you post and which products you can promote.
The caps are specific. TikTok's pilot program policy sets a limit of 3 shoppable videos per day and 3 LIVE selling streams per week. You can only promote products from shops with a performance rating of at least 95%. Campaigns stay closed until you graduate. The pilot runs at least 30 days.
Samples work on a delay too. You start with refundable samples. Free sample requests only unlock after your first sale. Affiliate links themselves are not restricted. Some routes skip the bar entirely, like seller invites with no follower minimum. Our breakdown of TikTok Shop affiliate under 5,000 followers walks every route in.
How do you graduate to full affiliate access?
Graduation takes five things at once: 5,000 followers, 30 days in the program, a high enough Creator Health Rating, one activity task, and a passed quiz. Clear all five and the caps come off, including unlimited shoppable videos. The follower count is the real wall, because the tasks take days and the followers can take months. The exact task options and the graduation math sit in our breakdown of TikTok Shop affiliate under 5,000 followers.
The Creator Health Rating matters more than most creators realize. Every new creator starts at 200 points, and violations pull the score down. Creators flagged for violations or low-quality content become Extended Pilot Creators. They drop to 3 videos and 1 LIVE per week, and they cannot graduate while the flag sits on the account. Our guide to how the Creator Health Rating works covers the point system and what each penalty band costs you.
How do you apply to become a TikTok Shop affiliate?
You apply inside the TikTok app, not on a website. Open TikTok Studio, go to the Monetization tab, select TikTok Shop for Creator, then tap Join now.
That path comes from TikTok's own application checklist. Before you tap it, check the basics. Your follower count should sit comfortably over 1,000. Your account region should be the US. And your profile should look active, with a photo, a bio, and recent posts.
Then comes verification. Identity checks give you up to 10 attempts. Affiliate creators must also confirm their age within 2 months of signing up. You get up to 15 attempts depending on the method. Blurry photos and mismatched names cause more failures than anything serious. Use good light, a flat surface, and your exact legal name.
If TikTok says no, the notice is short and generic, and it will not name the reason. Almost every rejection maps to one of the written rules above. Work through the most common rejection reasons before you try again. Reapplying with nothing changed gets the same answer.
What if you don't meet the requirements yet?
You have three real options: grow to 1,000 followers, get a seller to invite you, or start from an account that already clears the bar. Each one trades a different currency, whether that is time, relationships, or money.
Growth is the slow, safe route. It often takes months to reach 1,000, and the speed depends on your niche. Our guide to getting your first 1,000 followers covers the fastest honest path. A seller invite is the only documented route with no follower minimum at all. But you need a merchant who wants you, which means outreach and patience.
Buying is the fast route, and it needs a plain warning. Buying or selling an account is a legal private sale. But it breaks TikTok's terms of service. Those say: do not give others access to your account, or transfer your account to anyone else, without our permission. That is a platform rule, not a law. Nobody can honestly promise an account survives a transfer. A careful handover process and real account history lower the risk without removing it. Accounts at or above the affiliate bar are listed on our TikTok Shop affiliate account page. Even then, you still need to be 18, US-based, and able to pass identity verification in your own name.
